Are we eating ourselves to death?

Gastric Bypass commonly known as stomach stapling is becoming a common practice by parents and doctors to curb the increasing rise in childhood obesity. However is this surgery good for kids in the long run?
Many people think that this surgery is a quick fix attempt to make a dismal and disheartening situation better. But what can staple a stomach do for a kid?
It reduces their stomach up to 99 percent yet children have died from this surgery.
A 1994 review of weight reduction surgeries at the University Of Florida Department Of Surgeries showed 3 deaths within the 1st year of eleven children. Three others had severe complications requiring reopening.
Since Gastric Bypass surgery is on the rise, over 60 complications have been documented, including infections, leaks, intestinal obstruction, blood clots in the lungs, hernia, and other nutritional deficiency diseases.
Why is this surgery becoming more popular among parents and doctors when the risk is so high?
And effectively are we eating ourselves to death?

  2. Hi, I took some photos of carved chicken during my art degree course - to raise awareness of increasing popularity of stomach stapling - hope this doesn't offend you! I know it's not very pleasant to look at!
